Abstract

The flora and phenology of marine algae in Gyeonggi Bay are investigated during September 1979 - August 1980. As a result, 103 species in total; 9 species of Cyanophyta, 17 species of Chlorophyta, 15 species of Phaeophyta, and 62 species of Rhodophyta, are identified. Among them, Lyngbya baculum and Symploca hydnoides of Cyanophyta, Bryopsis corticulans of Chlorophyta, Ralfsia confusa and R. integra of Phaeophyta, and Champia bifida of Rhodophyta are recorded for the first time in Korea. The species most predominant in the Bay are Ulva pertusa, Scytosiphon lomentaria, Caulacanthus okamurai, and Gymnogongrus flabelliformis. On the other hand, the number of species remarkably increases from Incheon to the southern limit of the Bay, such as 5 spp. at Wolmi Islang, 14 spp. at Yongjong Island, 28 spp. at Somuui Island, 38 spp. at Yonghung Island, 65 spp. at Sochoji Island, and 64 spp. at Jawol, Soijak and Soya Islands, respectively.
